1921 ~ ROSE STEIN ~ 2020

Rose Stein of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the age of 99 years, beloved wife of the late Mike Stein. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Randy Stein (Cindy Gyorkos); sisters-in-law, Carol Stein, Clare Stein and Rose Peters along with numerous nieces and nephews from both families. She was predeceased by her parents Nick and Wilhelmina Peters; her husband Mike on April 4, 1974; her siblings, Adam (Loretta) Peters, Betty (Peter) Metz, Bud (Frieda) Peters, Floyd (Irma) Peters, Frank (Rose) Peters, George (Barbara) Peters, Jack Peters, Joe (Ida) Peters, Roy Peters, Sheila (Albin) Rollack, and Mike’s family, Alex (Frances) Stein, Alphonse Stein, Andrew (Katie) Stein, Emily Stein, Erasmus (Mona) Stein, Joe (Rose) Stein, Pat Stein and Tony (Ann) Stein. Rose was born on December 20, 1921 on the family farm near Richmound, Saskatchewan. On June 16, 1941, she married Mike Stein and they worked the family farm near Linacre until moving into Richmound in 1964 at which time Mike retired due to health issues. In 1974, Mike passed away suddenly with Rose remaining in Richmound until 1986, when she moved into a suite in Medicine Hat living there independently until 2012. She then moved to Chinook Village, Meadow Ridge, River Ridge and finally to Masterpiece as her care needs progressed. Rose was active in her community helping with the Catholic Women’s League catering functions as well as preparing her Borscht soup for bonspiels and sports days. She enjoyed visiting all her friends and spending time tending to her large garden. Her family would like to thank all the people involved with her care over the years. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Monday from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. (masks are mandatory). Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral mass will be celebrated in the Holy Family Parish on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Rodel Abanto Celebrant. BONNIE DYCK

1948 ~ 2020

 

Bonnie Faye Dyck (nee Johnson) passed away peacefully in Medicine Hat with family by her side on Wednesday, December 30th, 2020, at the age of 72 years. She is survived by her husband, Cal Dyck; sons, Shaun (Jen), Shane (Lina), Casey (Cassie); daughter, Chantelle Fickinger (Simon) as well as step-daughters, Jacquie Mirtle and Carla Kolody (Shaun). Bonnie is also survived by her sister, Brenda Hamilton (Jack); brothers, Don and Dave, as well as nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, the Rev. Dr. D. Bruce and Agnes Johnson as well as her step-son, Dan Dyck. Bonnie was born on March 10, 1948, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After growing up in Medicine Hat, she spent over 30 years in Missoula, Montana raising her family before returning to Alberta in 2002. She could always be found on the golf course or at the curling rink as these were her favourite ways to spend time with family and friends. Bonnie was an avid music lover throughout her life, and over the course of decades taught 100’s of kids to play piano. As such, she would often play piano for the church if she wasn’t singing in the choir or playing the bells. Bonnie cherished her grandchildren and time spent with Cal. Her butter tarts were legendary! Bonnie was a fire cracker redhead and taken from us too soon. She is now where she belongs. A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be planned at a later date, when the international border is open and the family can be reunited. EDWARD LAZAR

1948 ~ 2020

 

Edward Lazar passed away suddenly in Medicine Hat on Monday, December 28, 2020, at the age of 72 years. He leaves behind his daughters, Rebecca (Mark) Wedman and April Lazar; granddaughters, Isabella and Sophia Wedman as well as one brother, Kenneth Lazar. He was predeceased by his parents, Jean and Andrew and his son, Mark in 2013. Edward was born in Kamsack, SK., and raised on the family farm near Bredenbury, SK. His life was spent working in the construction industry and he continued to enjoy carpentry after his retirement. Edward loved classic cars, motorbikes and watching hockey. Though not originally from Medicine Hat, he loved his adopted home and lived in the city for over 25 years. Ed enjoyed long country drives and morning coffee chats with his friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to all of his friends, especially Gerry Pilon and Rob Dunham for all of their help and support the past few days. REGINALD SCOTT ELLS

 

“Forever In Our Hearts”

 

Reginald Ells, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Mary Ells, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at the remarkable age of 101 years. Reginald’s memory will be cherished in the hearts of his children, Glennis (Wayne) Baum, Brenda Ells and Ryan (Tasma) Ells; grandchildren, Terri (Brad) Mappin, Dallas (Jeness) Wilkins, Tanya (Sean) Verret, Michael (Kendra) Reinsch, Marla (Dolan) Kerr, Jori (Pete) Peterson, Matthew (Lisa) Reinsch, Kailyn Baum (Mandy Dion), Lowell Baum, Reagan Ells and Mitchell (Josie) Ells; great-grandchildren, Riley, Brady, Poppy, Sierra, Sadie, Cosmo and Raelynn as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Along with his parents, John and Lucie (nee Scott) Ells, Reginald was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Lee (Wilkins) in 1988, his wife, Mary Dorothy in 1993 as well as one brother and three sisters. Reginal Scott Ells was born on the family farm near Rowley, AB., on December 12, 1919. After WWII, Reg married Mary Sween of Redcliff. After he accepted a position with IXL Brick, the couple settled in Medicine Hat. Reg enjoyed a fulfilling 38 year career with IXL. Still with IXL, Reg and Mary bought a farm near Medicine Hat which they enjoyed well into retirement. During those years, they also began to travel, having adventures beyond our dreams. Sadly, Mary became ill and the couple were forced to sell the farm and return to the city in 1992. Reg continued to travel with family and friends for years. He was a role model and patriarch for the entire family, guiding with integrity and honesty. Papa lived a long and fulfilled life having just celebrated his 101st birthday!
