Two individuals from Meadowlands Retirement Residence have died from COVID-19 during an outbreak that began two weeks ago.
Revera, the organization that runs Meadowlands, sent out a press release on Dec. 30 confirming the two deaths during an outbreak that began on Dec. 19. There have been nine total cases among residents during the outbreak.
Of the cases stemming from the outbreak, one has been resolved.
The release confirms that one staff member is isolating after testing positive for the virus.
“We are working closely with Public Health officials and are maintaining pandemic outbreak protocols and infection control practices. Residents are isolated in their suites and monitored for symptoms twice daily. All staff are screened at the beginning and end of their shifts and are required to wear an appropriate mask and eye protection while in the residence,” chief medical officer Rhonda Collins said in the release.
The retirement residence is continuing with enhanced cleaning of high-touch areas like handrails, door handles and common areas.
To promote physical distancing, residents are being served meals in their suites. Group recreation programming has been replaced by individual activities with residents for social engagement.
“We are regularly updating residents, their families and the staff on the status of the outbreak. Visits have been cancelled during the outbreak, except for essential visitors. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents and their families as we take these precautions. After the outbreak is resolved, we will notify families as soon as we are able to resume visits,” the release states.
