Students at Vincent Massey School are stepping up to help bring Christmas to local seniors.
Various classes of students, led by teacher Tracy Elderkin, are working on letters that will be delivered to more than 300 seniors around Dec. 25.
“We’re trying to connect students to the community in a COVID-safe way,” she said. “We’re working with several retirement homes in the community and I’m getting kids to make Christmas cards for the residents.
“I also have the kids making a video that we will be sending out to the homes. The video can be shared with the residents over the Holidays.”
Elderkin says she and students work with seniors every year, but had to change it up.
“We usually go into the homes and sing Christmas carols but couldn’t this year,” she said. “This is how we changed things up this year to make it all work.”
Elderkin is also working with a group of students on a toonie campaign.
“We’re encouraging kids to do a chore at home to earn a toonie, then we will take the toonies we get and donate them to the Salvation Army,” she said. “I have put out a challenge this year where I will match donations from staff and students.
“We’ll go out shopping with the money and bring Christmas to kids in our community.”
Zach Gartly and Camden Martinez are Grade 6 students at Vincent Massey and they say it will be great to help out with the Holidays.
“It’s nice to help out seniors and spread Christmas Joy,” Gartly said. “It’s fun for us to make the cards and we know they’ll make the seniors happy.”
“I like writing nice things to the seniors to make them happy,” said Martinez.

Hello everybody! I am currently a graduate college student and I know how challenging coping with all these docs is often, doesn’t matter whether it’s a Christmas letter or a reference one. Writing any form of essay will not be that very easy as you could feel, in particular, if you are possessing writer’s block or your abilities are not great enough. From time to time, when I had a genuinely difficult time with all that composing stuff, I basically asked for internet assist from a reference letter service. And also you know what?
