Work to replace century-old wood supports and put a concrete deck on Finlay Bridge is complete.
Traffic was travelling across the span Monday after more than three months construction.
That project was approved in mid-May when council heard that a $1.7-million bid had been accepted for replacement of the deck, rebuilding the bridge approaches and minor work.
Administrators told council the work was not compatible to a substantial renovation in 2008 that removed lead paint and replaced girders. Municipal works officials also stated the new deck would keep the bridge in good repair for the next 40 years.
The entire $2.5-million budget was paid for out of grants related to the province’s Municipal Sustainability Initiative and the Federal Gas Tax apportionment.
