With many events cancelled this year, people jumped at the chance to take part in the 11th annual Water Run.
The run took place on Saturday to raise money for Nehemiah Construction Ministries.
“It was really good day,” said organizer Dave McElhinney. “I think a lot of people were really happy that this was happening because so much has been cancelled or postponed this year.
“This is a great family event and a lot of people came out and had a fun day.”
McElhinney says the event raised more than $85,000 to drill water wells in Northern Kenya.
“This was a really good year,” he said. “We’re blown away by that number.
“We were optimistic but expecting closer to $40,000 – this is amazing.”
The event had 170 runners registered, with 13 of those taking part virtually.
“The Water Run has really expanded,” said McElhinney. “It has its hand in every well we drill now.
“We have equipment costs and repair costs, and the Water Run gets us through to the next year.”
