1932 ~ EUGENE THOME ~ 2020

 

Eugene Thome passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the age of 88 years, beloved husband of Lydia Thome of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory three children, Agnes (Morley) Anheliger, Andrew (Kathy) Thome and Lore (Emil) Luca; five grandchildren, Cole Anheliger; Stephanie Anheliger (Zachary Nicholson); Adam (Skylar) Thome and their children Alex and Sophie; Janessa Thome and Jessica Luca; four brothers, John (Margaret), Mike, Peter and Rudy as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Christina Thome; his brother, Adolph Thome and sister, Rose (Richard) Schulzki. Eugene was born on April 9, 1932 in Odessa, Russia. He met Lydia in Germany and in 1952 Eugene came to Canada and later sent for Lydia to join him. She arrived in 1958 and they were married. They worked hard to raise their family and were together each day until his passing. Eugene enjoyed spending time with his family and loved fishing and watching sports. Dad was a romantic at heart, he loved to read a good love story. His wish was for all his grandchildren to be happily married and he would occasionally tease and drop hints to them regarding this matter. He was competitive and loved to play Canasta with family and friends, the best part of which was him winning the game. The weekly phone calls to his brothers were important to him, all of his brothers were loved by him. The family would like to thank Dr. Ciubotaru, Dr. Motsi and the nurses and staff on 4W and 5E for all their care and compassion in the past week. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Monday from 12:00 – 12:55 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in the Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road S.E.) on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Iqbal Khurshid officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Due to restrictions in place regarding COVID- 19 from the Chief Medical Officer of Health – funeral services are now limited to no more than 100 attendees including family, funeral home staff and church participants. 1934 ~ ADAM SCHMALTZ ~ 2020

Adam Schmaltz passed away on October 8, 2020 at the age of 86 years, beloved husband of Loretta Schmaltz of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory four children, Gwen Middleton, Kim (Glen) Renwick, Brian (Michelle) Schmaltz and Steven (Wendy) Schmaltz; ten grandchildren, Aaron (Shelly), Jamie (Larry), Craig (Brooke), Michael (Jillian), Stephanie (Kyle), Chelsey (Brad), Amanda, Tyson (Erin), Kadin (Brittany) and Tenielle (Nathan); seven great grandchildren, Isabella, Jaden, Brooklyn, Loghan, Beckett, Deklan and Olivia; his brother, Richard (Susan) Schmaltz; two sisters, Ann Barker and Eva Sutherland as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Ludwig and Katherine Schmaltz; four brothers, Peter, Frank, Louis and Jack and his sister, Rose. 1936 – TRUDY MAE BRYANT – 2020

Trudy (Gertrude) Mae Bryant passed away October 3, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Hospice after a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer. Trudy was born September 19, 1936 in Minot, ND, the eldest daughter of Lutheran missionaries. Her young life filled with adventure and travel. She travelled as an infant by ship to Bergen, Norway, her first steps filmed in Paris, lived in Madagascar from ages 2-18 where she graduated from the American Boarding High School where she made lifelong friends. Be it freighter ship, airplane (not like now), oxcart, outrigger canoe, mom would tell the stories with pictures to prove it. Her pet Lemur Mak (mok) will never be forgotten. Mom returned to Minneapolis trained as an LPN working in Montana where she married Dad. Together they immigrated to Canada. Living in BC and AB, farming and ranching, until retirement to Medicine Hat in 1997. Mom made her mind up she was moving near her first grandson and daughter – dad had no choice. So, for the last 23 years she was involved and present for her two grandsons – she was their cheering squad no matter what. Mom enjoyed meeting people and making friends writing to many over her lifetime. Her Christmas letters were legendary.

Her Lutheran faith sustained her throughout her life but especially after her illness which she handled with dignity and grace. Mom is survived by her husband Ray of 62 years; son, Stephen (Cheryl), daughter, Brenda (Doug) Bird; grandsons, Michael and Matthew Bird; brother, Melvin Rossing; sisters, Martha Sloboden, Elizabeth Erickson and their families. Trudy was predeceased by her parents Rev. Malvin and Anna Rossing and her brother David Rossing.

Kathy Murney, beloved wife of Gilbert, passed away on Monday, October 5th, 2020 at the age of 80 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, “Gib”; children, Wanda Lazar of Medicine Hat, AB, Dean (Kate) Murney of Devon, AB, and Rosa Murney of Calgary, AB; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one brother; three sisters; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sharon Alice Ward passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 8th, 2020 at the age of 65 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Natalie Ward; daughter, Stephanie Ward and her children, Kayla, Gavin and Preston; daughter, Amanda Ward (Trevor Mossing) and her children, Tyson and Paige; daughter, Tiffany Ward (Scott Gowan) and their children, Charity, Faith, Chase and Luke; great grandchildren, Kaysen and Kaylen; siblings, Rick Ward, Janet Ward, Judy Bratton, Darlene (Tim) Herman, Derrick (Brenda) Ward and Jackie Ward; fur babies, Gizzy, Kujo, and Storm; as well and numerous nieces and nephews. DICK ROSENDAL

 

January 27, 1948 – October 7, 2020

 

After a valiant battle with cancer, the family of Dirk ‘Dick’ Rosendal is heartbroken to announce that he passed away peacefully in his home in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at the age of 72 years. Along with Henny, his beloved wife of 48 years, Dick will be lovingly remembered by his son, Brent (Tawm) and their son, Owen; daughter, Renée (Jace) Anderson and their sons, Elijah and Caleb; brothers, Henry, George, Winston, Walter and Albert; sisters, Wilma and Margaret as well as their spouses and families. He is also survived by Henny’s family, Jane, Gerda, Conny (Rod) and their families. Dick was predeceased by his grandson, Micah in 2009; parents, Brandt and Hendrika Rosendal; Henny’s parents, Tony and Gerda Vonk; brothers-in-law, Leen Vonk and Hank Aasman as well as his great-nephew, Donovan Weiss. Dick was born on the family farm in Kootwijbroek, Netherlands, on January 27, 1948. His family immigrated to Canada in 1950 and eventually settled in Medicine Hat in 1962. Dick enjoyed farming, mechanics and curling but his greatest love was his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Some of Dick’s fondest memories were camping with his family and his hunting trips with Reuben. He was a well liked, quiet and hard working man who never complained, even after being diagnosed with cancer. Even in death, he showed great strength and dignity. Dick loved the Lord and we rejoice that this is a temporary goodbye, until we meet again. Dick’s love for his family will be forever remembered and he will be greatly missed.
