A local artist is searching for answers after two of her pieces that were on display downtown went missing recently.

Susan Sakamoto put 10 of her pieces on display at the building where Swell Wealth and Elliot Home + Lifestyle are open for business.

There isn’t an exact date or time known of when the paintings went missing, but Sakamoto believes they were stolen during business hours.

“They’ve been hanging in that building and they say they don’t get much traffic that isn’t directly related to business,” said Sakamoto. “I don’t think any of the businesses noticed that the art was missing right away, but they think it was maybe the previous week to last week where these went missing.”

Sakamoto says the paintings are a pair and each of them is 24 by 48 inches.

“They’re not small,” she said. “Who knows where they could be now.

“I just hope whoever took them liked them and might have been confused. I just hope this wasn’t a prank. I really hope they aren’t destroyed or sitting in an alley somewhere.”

Sakamoto says one of the 10 paintings on display had sold, meaning two of nine were taken from the building. She says the paintings mean a lot to her.

“They’re paint and paper,” she said. “They’re part collage and part paint. There’s layers of paint and paper mixed in – I think they’re quite nice.

“Some of the papers are from when my oldest son was a little boy, so I really am hoping to get these two back.”
