Power and gas prices will drop in October, according to utility rates posted Thursday by the City of Medicine Hat.

The month’s electricity and natural gas commodity rates are between 12 and 18 per cent less than in September.

Power sits at 6.2-cents per kilowatt hour, down from 7.5-cents last month, while gas falls 33-cents to sit at $2.256 per gigajoule.

Rates are for residential and small- to medium-commercial customers.

Medicine Hat utility rates are based on the average charged across the province by major providers with default contracts.

Comparable rates for gas were $2.251 (direct Energy) and $2.261 (AltaGas).

Default power rates ranged from 5.85-cents from Direct Energy to 6.55-cents from Epcor in the Edmonton area.
