1951 – EDGAR BLAQUIERE – 2020

Edgar “Ed” Joseph Blaquiere passed away on September 24, 2020 at the age of 68 years. He leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life, Bev, his sons, Kirk (Dione) Blaquiere, Shane (Amanda) Blaquiere, Donnie (Ashley) Perini and was predeceased by his son Bruce Perini. He also leaves nine grandchildren, Jessica, Craig, Cody, Sabrina, Hannah, Tiahanna, Josh, Larissa, Nicolas; four great grandchildren, Kali, Kinslee, Keanna, Clyde; his mother, Doris Blaquiere, two sisters, June (Bill) Matuska and Betty (Trevor) Jones as well as numerous other loved ones who called him “Grampa”. Ed was superman to his grandkids. When he became ill, his granddaughter Hannah said, “superman is tired, and even superman needs to rest”. Ed loved his family and would brag about how awesome his mom is, what great sisters he had, and that he had the prettiest and smartest grandkids. He loved to motorcycle and owned many different bikes until 1985, when he bought his first Harley. He travelled on his Harley with Bev to many places that hold awesome memories of the fun times. He loved camping and fishing with his boys, and when the boys grew older he then took the grandkids. Chopping wood, having a fire pit, and toasting marshmallows were a chore of love. Ed built his dream workshop and spent hours wood working – building games, tables and chairs for kids, and repairing furniture for anyone that needed help. Bev and Ed were “joined at the hip” and did everything together. Jeanette was his most loved sister-in-law who introduced them to cruising to Victoria Island for wine tours, Cruise Night Car Shows in Three Hills, and then finally real cruises to the Caribbean. Ed was one of the three original organizers of the Medicine Hat Toy Run. For many years he had the privilege to be Santa Claus on the Toy run. He had many friends over the years and his family would like to thank them for their support through his last tough battle, especially Gary and Marlene who made a social life possible. We also want to thank WeCare/HomeCare for making it possible for Ed to stay at home as long as possible. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at which time social distancing is encouraged. A private family service will be held at a later date. Those who wish to remember Ed with a donation, may do so to the Carmel Hospice (St. Joseph’s Home) (for furniture in Medicine Hat) or the Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund. JAMIE PRAWDZIK

December 18, 1968 ~ September 23, 2020

Our beloved Jamie Joseph Prawdzik passed away in Medicine Hat on September 23, 2020. Jamie was born in St Boniface, Manitoba on December 18, 1968. Jamie’s memory will be forever cherished by his mom, Betty (Melvin) Oerlemans and his dad, David Prawdzik. Also devastated to say this premature good-bye are Jamie’s siblings, Kim (Jim) Schmidt, David (Beverly) Prawdzik, Dawn Prawdzik and Walter Prawdzik. Jamie loved his little buddy and sidekick, Howard. Howie was at Jamie’s side right up until the end.

Jamie will be remembered as a generous and loving uncle to: Travis, Ryan (Kerri) Unger, Tara (Doug) Critchlow, Alicia, Brittany and James Schmidt, Micheal Prawdzik, Tabitha, McKenzie (Brendan), Robert (Shelby), Thomas Davey, Walter Jr. (Samantha), Grace, Noah Prawdzik, Jenny (Barry) Steinhubl and his niece and Goddaughter, Mallory (Tanner) Cook. Jamie was a great-uncle to; Brandon, Devon, Cole, Taylor, Finlay, Hunter, Vaetta, Gage, Ridley, Brooks, Indie, Walter IV, Weston, Olivia and a great-great-uncle to Dion. With the recent announcements of three more babies expected this year to our family, Jamie loved to be in the loop and was so often a contributor and spectator. He took great pride in each and every one of his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews accomplishments. Jamie has many aunties, uncle’s, cousins and friends that will remember him always. Jamie was predeceased by his brother, Jimmy Prawdzik; paternal grandparents, Agnes and Walter Prawdzik and maternal grandparents, Veronica and Joseph Pow.

Jamie attended St Mary’s and McCoy High School, and like many young men of his time, left school early to chase down the dreams that the 80’s oil boom had to offer. He joined his brothers across the prairies and up north. Jamie soon established his own name and reputation as a conscientious and hard working rig hand and he especially loved it when he became the driller and could mentor his nephews and friends alike. Soon the hire, fire and rehire began and sometimes the fire wasn't even work related. Jamie was solid as a rock in his values, always for the underdog and tough as nails he was.

Jamie often would make his way to the west coast by thumb or by rail and eventually enjoyed driving the mountains in his crossfire. This is where he learned the art of carpentry. Never to just coast or sit idle, Jamie expanded his experiences by travelling the world to the Middle East and Africa, running crews as a Drilling Foreman and Rig Consultant. His overseas work afforded Jamie so many amazing opportunities of travelling the world and experiencing first hand the many cultures. He loved to give gifts and generously indulged those whom he loved. One would rarely ever leave his home without a story, a trinket or gift from afar.

Jamie was the baby of the family and especially close to his mom. She was protective of him and we all accepted him as her favourite. No matter where Jamie went his heart always brought him home. He loved family holidays, big meals and enjoyed hosting dinners at his apartment for those he loved, when he was in the ‘mood’. Jamie was the official pumpkin carver and wore the “suit” on more than one Christmas. He loved his sisters’ home cooked meals and took great pride in being a part of family celebrations and tradition.

Jamie was exceptionally smart and had an amazing memory for Science Fiction, Greek Mythology and History. As a young boy, Jamie loved his Marvel comics and even more, loved to explain the depths of his knowledge about each character as though he knew them personally. He was an avid reader, a Trekkie and a Storm Trooper. Jamie was a natural carpenter, was strong in virtue and if you were his friend he had your back and was fiercely loyal, sometimes to a fault. Jamie knew people world wide, was respected by many and loved by all.

A celebration of Jamie’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this Funeral Service will be limited to 100 people. Those wishing to watch the service via Live Streaming are invited to click on the link on the website at http://www.cook southland.com just prior to the service time. Jamie had a long list of those who would have been honoured to do one last act of love for him and you are all remembered in our hearts. He will be carried to his final resting place by his brothers, David Prawdzik, Walter Prawdzik; nephews, Micheal Prawdzik, Robert Davey and good friends, Tim Ismond and Ed McLaughlin. If friends so desire, a charitable donation in Jamie’s name may be made directly to the Medicine Hat and Redcliff Kidsport, P.O. Box 40009, 255 Southridge Drive S.E., Medicine Hat, AB., T1B 4S6 or The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 119 – 14 Street N.W., Calgary, AB., T2N 1Z6.
