Bob Will’s legacy earned another chapter last Tuesday at the inaugural Teeing Off Fore Men’s Health Golf Tournament.
Will passed away last year following a battle with cancer, but not before making a significant impact in his community through various charitable initiatives, including the tournament’s earlier Plaid for Dad iteration. Â
“Bob was trying to give back to the community he’d grown up in, in a way that people could get together and enjoy themselves, and support the community without even feeling like it,” organizing chair Ryan Kingsley said in a Tuesday release. “I wanted to see his ideas into fruition.”Â
With that effort in mind, Teeing Off racked up $15,000 for the men’s health initiatives at the Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation.Â
“(The participants) felt like they were coming together for Bob. They are honouring his memory by honouring his dream and his vision: have a great time golfing while making an impact on men’s health care in Medicine Hat,” MHDHF executive director Heather Bach said in the release. “It’s amazing to see men and women come together for a day of fun and talk about men’s health at a time when we really need to be discussing that topic. Men’s mental health especially needs to be talked about.”
The release added $2,500 of the total amount raised came through a donation from the Yuill Family Foundation.
