Daily COVID update, Sept. 2

The number of Alberta deaths attributed to COVID-19 increased by one in the last 24 hours and it was in the south zone’s Newell County.

Alberta Health reports that the total number of deaths in Alberta now stands at 242, with 25 in the south.

The total number of active cases in this region is 31. The largest change in number of active cases in this area is in Vulcan, with 18 compared to just seven on Aug. 30.

Medicine Hat has two active cases and Cypress County remains at zero.

Across Alberta there are 1,403 active cases, 50 people in hospital with COVID-19 and of those nine are in ICU.

The south zone, which includes Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Brooks and the surrounding area, has two cases in hospital and one in ICU.

Calgary remains the hotspot with the highest number of active cases at 632, followed by Edmonton at 538, the north zone at 167 and central zone 32. Three active cases have not been attributed to a specific zone yet.
