Medicine Hat Lodge has found a creative way of bringing in a bit more revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Lodge set up a small go-kart track in a section of its parking lot earlier this month and it has become a hit.

“Our industry has taken a hit with COVID,” said sales manager Jill Scherer. “We’re trying to think of other activities and things to do for our guests.

“The opportunity came up with the go karts and we thought it would be a great addition for the hotel.”

The track opened Aug. 12 and has become quite popular for Hatters of all ages.

“It’s been great,”said Scherer. “Our weekends have been super busy and weekdays have been steady.

“We’re seeing a really good flow of traffic every day.”

The go-karts are open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day, but may be reduced once schools are back open.

The price is $10 per kart, with each kart holding up to two people. Each person gets five minutes on the track for that cost.

“I went on and I got around 20 laps in the five minutes,” said Scherer. “You get to go around quite a few times.”

People need to be 10 years or older and at least 52 inches tall to drive. Passengers can be younger than 10, but need to fit into a helmet safely.

Kids under 18 need to be with a parent or guardian to participate.

Each $10 purchase comes with a kids eat free coupon to the Redwood Steakhouse in the Lodge.
