By Medicine Hat News on August 25, 2020.

Police have made an arrest following an arson investigation.

Last week, fire crews were called to a duplex in Crestwood at about 6 p.m. on Aug. 19 to put out a blaze.

No one was injured and the fire was contained to one side of the building located on the 2500 Block of 22 Ave., S.W.

Police opened an investigation into the incident the following day and asked for tips from the public regarding the case.

Authorities announced on Monday they had laid a single charge of arson against Natalie Denholm, 37, of Medicine Hat.

Cyclists on highway

Four teens on bikes crossing the TransCanada Highway on Saturday night led to a fender-bender but could have been worse, Mounties from Redcliff detachment said Monday.

Authorities say they were called to the intersection of Highway 1 and Broadway Avenue at about 8 p.m. on Aug. 22, after they say four male teenagers attempted to cross north against the lights. That forced the driver of a Toyota Rav4 to take evasive action and it struck an Isuzu truck casuing minor damage.

One cyclist made contact with the Toyota, but only minor injuries were reported.

RCMP officials state the investigation is continuing, but are recommending all pedestrians and cyclists use precaution when approaching busy roads. Lights and reflective clothing should also be used.

COVID warning in Swift

The Saskatchewan Health Authority has noted three businesses in Swift Current as sites of potential exposure to the coronavirus last week.

Anyone who attended Shoppers Drug Mart or Dairy Queen in that city on Monday, Aug. 17, between 1 and 2:30 p.m. or Original Joe’s restaurant on Friday, Aug. 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., should self-isolate and monitor themselves for symptoms. Individuals may develop symptoms from two to 14 days following exposure.

According to Monday’s update from health officials, out of 98 active cases in Saskatchewan, 31 are located in the Southwest region, and 18 in the South-central, including Moose Jaw.
