Trail section closing temporarily for utility line replacement on Spencer Street

By Medicine Hat News on August 19, 2020.

A portion of the city’s trail network will be closed next week until early September as nearby construction replaces utility lines along Spencer Street.

The effort to replace water sewer and drainage pipes along the Kipling and Spencer streets corridor began in the spring.

Starting Aug. 24, trenching and work on a storm sewer outfall will proceed near the Seven Persons Creek.

That line will cross the pathway that connects the Saratoga Trail and Dunmore Road to a pathway that extends to College Avenue and further east to Kin Coulee Park.

The closure is expected to last until Sept. 5.

Rail crossing delay

Planned repair of rail crossing in the city’s northwest will proceed a week later than originally scheduled.

A reworking of the spur line crossing of Brier Park Road was to begin this week, but will now go ahead on Aug. 25, the city’s municipal works department announced.

Canadian Pacific Railway is performing the work that will take two days to complete. The route, which connects Brier Park Industrial Estates to Box Springs Road is expected to be closed for two days to vehicle traffic. Detours will be in place and direct motorists to 23rd Street NW (Rotary Centennial Way).
