Broncs and Honky Tonks rodeo officially called off

By Medicine Hat News on July 31, 2020.

There will be no Broncs and Honky Tonks at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede this year.

The indoor spring rodeo, originally scheduled for April – then re-scheduled to Sept. 18-20 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic – was officially cancelled Thursday, the local Stampede announced in a press release.

“The rodeo committee volunteers worked very hard over the last few months to look for a way to move forward, however the health and safety of everyone must come first so the decision was made to cancel the rodeo,” reads the release.

“We wish to thank the community and our patrons for their patience and understanding.”

The release adds that current ticket holders can contact the Stampede office at 403-527-1234 to have their tickets either rolled forward to 2021 or refunded.

There is still one rodeo event on the horizon in Medicine Hat, as Professional Bull Riding Canada’s Thunderbuck in the Badlands – now part of the Monster Energy Tour – remains scheduled to take place on Sept. 26 at the Canalta Centre.
