1160 Obituaries 1922 ~ MAGDALENA WINDER ~ 2020 Magdalena “Lena” E. Winder of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at the age of 98 years, beloved wife of the late Leonard Winder. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Mary Anne Berger, Leonard (Joan) Winder and Edwin (Gladys) Winder; ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and fifteen great great grandchildren; one sister Amelia (Andy) Thomas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard in 1986; her parents Elizabeth and Martin Vollman; one son-in-law Clifford Berger, one granddaughter Valerie Livingston and a great granddaughter Charissa Winder. ALVIN LAUTERMILCH 1929 – 2020 Alvin Lautermilch of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Carol, entered Heaven on July 15, 2020, at the age of 91 years. Along with Carol, Alvin leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Carolyn (Bob) Klassen; three grandchildren, Michael Klassen, Krista Klassen and Jody (Adriana) Klassen; four great- grandchildren, Ashley Klassen, Evan Klassen, Nolan Konachowicz and Daphne Konachowicz; one brother, Gordon (Wynn) Lautermilch as well as one sister, Janice (Roy) Funk. Alvin was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Katie Lautermilch; first wife, Marian; child in infancy, Lana Lautermilch as well as a brother, Edwin Lautermilch. Alvin was born and raised in Woodrow, Sask. He loved life and was granted 91 years to enjoy it. Alvin was known for his sense of humor which he maintained until the end of his life. He also loved family and always had time for his grandchildren. Alvin’s occupations were farming and operating room porter. In later years, he was faced with medical challenges which he faced with bravery. Alvin was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial will be announced at a later date. ELAINE RARICK – HAAF 1939 ~ 2020 It is with deepest sadness that the family announces the passing of Elaine Evelyn Rarick-Haaf on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, in Medicine Hat at the age of 81 years. Elaine leaves to cherish her husband, Ken Haaf; daughter, Marena Rarick (Bruce Sandford) and her children, Aime (Rob) Snazel and their children, Jackson and Gemmma, Philip (Melissa) Tschritter and their children, Isabella and Greyson; daughter, Leanna Koch and special son-in-law, Randy Koch and their children, Emily Koch, Samuel Koch (Hailey Lange) and Abigail Koch; son, Cory (Tammy) Rarick and their son, Owen Rarick. She also leaves her special daughter, Cindy Robinson (Tom Kneebone) and her children, Lailah, Miles and Ophelia and John (Josie) Beck all of Australia. Cherishing her memory as well is her sister, Florence (Richard) Berenger; brothers, Lloyd (Pat) Cowie and Wayne (Grace) Cowie; Ken’s brothers, Nick Haaf, Garry (Chris) Haaf and sister-in-law, Elain Haaf as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends all of whom she loved dearly. ERNIE BLOCK 1926 ~ 2020 Ernest Edward Block of Lethbridge passed away suddenly on May 13, 2020 at the age of 94. Ernie was born in Medicine Hat to Marie and Gustav Block on March 15, 1926. He grew up in a home with musically talented parents and became a multitalented musician at an early age, mastering numerous instruments throughout his life. Although Ernie was best known for his musical abilities, he had many athletic abilities as well and was an avid sports fan of baseball and hockey. At the age of 17 years he was making a name for himself in baseball and was professionally scouted but chose to continue with his academic and musical interests. Ernie graduated from Alexander High School in Medicine Hat and went on to get his teaching degrees at the University of Alberta and University of Missoula. He taught for a total of 35 years. He was the first Grade 8 typing teacher at Hamilton Junior High in Lethbridge for 29 years until his retirement. His retirement from teaching allowed him to devote himself to his passion – music. Ernie was involved in music from an early age. He had his own orchestra from the early 50s to the early 60s – The Ernie Block Orchestra. He started with the Lethbridge Big Band in 1963. Throughout his musical career he also participated in the Lethbridge Playgoers and Lethbridge Musical Theatre. He played in many different bands in Southern Alberta. He was an accomplished musical arranger (wrote his first arrangement at age 12) and copyist sharing his arrangements with many in Canada and the U.S. Ernie enjoyed volunteering his time helping with the Junior high and high school Jazz bands at lunch or after hours. He jokingly would say he “never had a day off”. Ernie received a tribute from Lethbridge Jazz Society for outstanding contributions to the Music Community of Southern Alberta for 50 years. Ernie had a very upbeat personality and loved to acknowledge his appreciation of music. In his later years he would attend concerts and productions and marvel at the talent that was right here in Lethbridge. At the time of his passing, Ernie was still actively involved playing bass with the Herb Hicks quartet as well as playing with the Dixieland band for the Horse Races at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club. He was looking forward to the next gig at the Mocha Cabana and for the Horse Racing to start up again. Ernie was still living independently in his own home, driving his own vehicle, (one of the oldest members of Alberta Motor Association) and was looking forward to a regular tee time at the Lethbridge Country Club. During his 44 year membership he had scored 2 hole in ones. Ernie was predeceased by second wife Marg Forish (2018) and son Douglas Block (1998). He is survived by former wife Jean Buxton (Edmonton) and children Allan (Carol Flaig) Lethbridge , Brenda (Ken Greenan) Edmonton, Carol (Art Riendeau) Edmonton, Marg Forish’s daughter Deb (Klaus Santrau) Lethbridge Grandchildren: Keane Block, Amanda (Derrek Hansen and great grandson Sawyer) Patrick Riendeau, Tori Greenan and Josh Halldorson. Ernie touched many lives and as much as the family would enjoy a public gathering to honor his memory, due to Covid restrictions we are unable. A private family service will be held, and a public Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date when restrictions are lifted. KATHERINE LINCOLN Oct. 20, 1921 ~ Jul. 4, 2020 It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the passing of Katherine Lear Lincoln at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at the age of 98 years. Katherine leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Bill (Marilyn) Milroy and Robert (Denise) Milroy as well as one stepson, John Lincoln. She is also survived by four grandsons, Jason (Lori) Milroy, Scott (Jen) Milroy, Kuhan (Densel) Milroy and Ryan Milroy; four great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Katherine was predeceased by her husbands, W.A. ‘Bunk’ Milroy in 1978 and John Lincoln in 1993. Ormond Dick December 29, 1926 – Jul. 12, 2020 Orm Dick, beloved husband of the late Jean Dick, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2020, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at the age of 93 years with his family by his side. Dad was born in Dauphin, MB on December 29, 1926, the first in his family to be born in Canada after immigrating from Scotland. When Dad was 12 his father died, after which he learned the meaning of hard work and responsibility. At the young age of 17 he enlisted in the Navy. Upon his return home he married Jean Tucker. Dad became a butcher at EatonÂ’s in Dauphin, and then went on to become Canada Packers top salesman, putting on thousands of miles necessitating a new car every year. They lived in Carmen and finally Brandon, MB, where they raised their 4 children. He retired early at the age of 55, moving to the Shuswap. Never satisfied with being idle he started a new career investing in the stock market, which became a successful passion for him. Family always came first. No one was spared by his relentless teasing. Many summers were spent on the lake at the Shuswap, with Dad spending endless hours pulling skiers behind the boat. He took great pleasure in playing crib, having a drink of rum, and participating in the annual family NFL football pool. Dad and Mom loved to travel and enjoyed many winters in Florida, Texas, and Mexico with family and friends. After living in B.C. for almost 20 years, they decided to move to Medicine Hat to be closer to family. Dad was predeceased by his wife Jean in 2017 and son Brent in 1988. Left to cherish his memory are his 3 children Randy (Leslie), Jan Morgan, Brad (Judy), as well as 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on 5E, as well as his family doctor, Dr Nunweiler, for the great care and compassion that he received.

TIANA SHOEBRIDGE January 16, 1980 ~ July 9, 2020 On Thursday, July 9, 2020, Tiana Joy Shoebridge left the loving embrace of both her partner, Colin Binding and that of her mother, Laverne Marie Packard in order to beat cancer for the fifth time in her own way. Cancer may have taken her body in this final battle but because she inspired so many people to fight cancer after her death, she has left behind a Legacy Army of Spirit that “It” will never be able to defeat. Tiana was born on January 16, 1980, to Laverne Marie Shoebridge (nee Dronsfield) and her husband, Lewis Caleb ‘Ted’ Shoebridge. There was also big sister, Marcella Marie patiently awaiting for Tiana Joy Shoebridge to cheer her on! Tiana leaves behind many friends who will miss her and carry on her fight. Her loving partner, Colin Binding will miss her every moment at home when she isn’t there to ring the glass with ice cubes after a tough day and after they have come off the road where they’d spend a great deal of time together riding. He awaits his chance to rejoin the person who ever “gets” him so they can be in the wind again. For 40 years Laverne Marie Packard fought through everything life threw at her to keep Tiana alive and hold her hand as she let go, the best mother that Tiana could have ever wanted. She also leaves behind her step-father who raised her as his own, David Packard; sister, Marcella Marie Shoebridge-Gibson (Tim Gibson); nephews, Nicolas Shoebridge and Tristin Gibson; step-sons, Mitchell (Kristin) Binding and Sydney (Kesha) Binding; grandson, Owen Binding and her in-laws, Harold and Elizabeth Binding. Greeting Tiana on the other side is her father, Lewis Caleb ‘Ted’ Shoebridge; paternal grandparents, Bud and Hazel Shoebridge; maternal grandparents, Herbert Dronsfield Jr and Ida May Dronsfield (whom Tiana has always known as her Guardian Angel); uncle, Lloyd Dronsfield as well as her aunt, Ethel Jacobs. Tiana has always been a believer that her niece, Shandi Marie Shoebridge, awaits her with the company of every pet or rescue animal that her young aunt ever commended to her care. There have been many close family and friends that passed through her life and she will see them all again. “It may take my life but it won’t take my legacy and my legacy is to take away its power by getting people to raise money and fight back by getting their stories out there.” – Tiana Shoebridge The family would to thank the Palliative Care and Home Care nurses – you ladies are amazing; as well as Dr. Meiring and our family friend, Dr. Josh Foley.
