The YMCA is expanding the day camp spaces that are being offered this summer.
In conjunction with the Medicine Hat Public School Division, additional day camp spaces for school-aged children have been acquired.
There are now an additional seven weeks of day camps available with a total of 364 spots that can be registered for now.
Sharon Hayward, CEO YMCA, says the United Way of Southeast Alberta has provided generous support so that the costs of camps has been reduced from $190 a week to $142 a week, representing a savings of 25 per cent.
The new spaces are provided as licensed out-of-school child care, which means they are staffed by trained early childhood educators. Any families that are eligible for the Government of Alberta Subsidy can access this to offset their costs.
“Summer day camps are crucial to families who need child care for their school-aged children,” said Hayward. “They provide safe and fun opportunities for recreation, skill development and physical activity for children who have completed kindergarten to Grade 5.”
