Several charges for trio arrested in drug seizure

By Medicine Hat News on June 12, 2020.

Three Medicine Hat residents have been charged with drug and property offences as the result of an investigation by MHPS’s Regional Property Crime Unit.

On Tuesday, police executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Fifth Street SW which led to the charges, according to a Thursday release from police.

The release also states the RPCU had previously executed a search warrant at the same residence on Jan. 31, both of which stemmed from complaints from community members regarding suspected drug activity, as well as information gathered through proactive police patrol activity.

Ten grams of methamphetamine were seized, with evidence of trafficking, as well as a small amount of fentanyl, a prohibited stun gun disguised as a flashlight, numerous items of stolen property – including tools, bicycles and cheques – 24 packages of black-market cigarettes, $100 in counterfeit currency and $1,000 in proceeds of crime.

Roger Bachmeier, 41, has been charged with one count each of possession for the purposes of trafficking meth, possession of fentanyl, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of stolen property, possession of counterfeit money, and operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited. Bachmeier also faces four counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Robert Brandon Smith, 34, has been charged with one count of possession for the purposes of trafficking meth and one count of possession of Fentanyl.

Jacqueline Dopp, 41, has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking meth and one count of possession of the proceeds of crime.

All three have been released on bail, with Dopp scheduled to appear in count July 22, and both Bachmeier and Smith scheduled for July 23 court appearances.

“The RCPU and MHPS Patrol Section will continue to monitor this residence and address concerns as they arise,” reads the release. “Members of the community who suspect drug, gang or property crime issues in their neighbourhood can submit tips anonymously through the MHPS mobile app, which is free to download and available for both Apple and Android devices or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).”
