Rallies in support of U.S. anti-racism protests taking place later this week

By Medicine Hat News on June 3, 2020.

Local anti-racism rallies are planned to take place in southeast Alberta later this week.

Protests have gripped the United States for close to a week as calls for better race relations and an end to police brutality follow video of an in-custody death of a black man in Minnesota.

Social media posts are calling for Hatters to join together “peacefully protesting in honour” at 4 p.m. on Friday at Medicine Hat city hall plaza while observing health restrictions and calls for physical distancing.

A similar event in Brooks is scheduled on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m., in a march from the McDonald’s location on Second Street W to city hall.

Do such protests help in any way? The problem remains as it was and it is difficult to say that the problem of racism can be taken and solved in a couple of days or in a few years. This is much deeper and all social classes, from children to retirees, will always discuss this and talk about how racism affects their lives.
