The Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association was forced to call off its season opener – which was scheduled to take place over the weekend – due to provincial guidelines. The local strip was hoping to move forward with a season opener in compliance with outdoor recreational guidelines under Stage 1 of the provincial relaunch plan, but a release on the MHDRA website says the organization has been categorized as a racing entertainment centre and must remain closed as a result. “Although we do not know the details yet outlining the new category, as more info is released we will do our best to meet the new standards,” reads the release. “Our plan is to get talking to the government and AHS officials to see how we can get all motorsport facilities open and a set of guidelines for us.” MHDRA had planned on carrying out its racing events with no fans and strict social distancing guidelines for racers. The MHDRA’s next event is scheduled for June 19-21. 6
