Medicine Hat Rotary Club celebrated its 102nd anniversary on Monday.

In recognition of the special birthday, members of the club enjoyed some exercise on Rotary Centennial Trail, which was sponsored by the organization.

“It is fabulous to be out and about celebrating a legacy project. It’s a pleasure to contribute something that promotes a healthy lifestyle for families,” said president Margie Booyens.

The recently constructed, but not yet completed, 1.5-mile paved trail runs alongside S. Boundary Road and connects with other trails in the area.

Many members of the club turned out to walk or cycle the trail on a sunny afternoon and there were even a few dogs to join in the fun and exercise.

“It’s nice to see the commitment of others to the community that makes it a great place to be,” said incoming president Mark Sorenson, who will take on the role July 1.

Booyens says the official opening of the trail is expected to take place sometime in late fall and before winter.

If you would like to see the trail system in the city and surrounding area, there are maps available from the Visitor Centre free of charge – Parks & Recreation. Heritage Trail Network Map. The map identifies the trails in purple and key information is provided on the name of trail, length and places to take in along the way. Medicine Hat had 115 km of trails.
