Woman in her 80s killed when she was hit by vehicle, no charges to be laid

By Medicine Hat News on May 26, 2020.

An 83-year-old Medicine Hat woman has died as the result a motor vehicle collision in the Crescent Heights area on Saturday morning.

Following an investigation, Medicine Hat Police Service traffic Sgt. Gerald Sadlemyer says no charges will be laid.

“It appears right now that it was just an accident,” said Sadlemyer, adding MHPS will not be releasing the name of the victim. “It’s a tragedy.”

At around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sadlemyer says a collision occurred between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in the 1200 block of McKenzie Crescent. EMS and the MHPS patrol and traffic section responded to the scene but the 83-year-old woman died from her injuries.

“We cleared the scene at about 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon,” said Sadlemyer. “As far as the investigation itself, with these traffic investigations we’ve always got little odds and ends that we’ve got to clean up, but it’s more paperwork stuff than anything else. It’s not going to affect the outcome.”
