ACAC planning for grim future as next season is in doubt

By Medicine Hat News on April 23, 2020.

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference is doing what it can to plan for the future.

The COVID-19 pandemic has placed the upcoming 2020-21 college sports season in jeopardy, and as a result the ACAC cannot confirm any official start dates or schedules, however the sporting body announced Wednesday it is committed to providing a season in some form.

“Although the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has created an extraordinary level of disruption to almost every aspect of society, the ACAC remains committed to the process of planning for a 2020-21 athletics season,” ACAC CEO Mark Kosak said in the release. “Financial constraints combined with uncertainty about the timetable for lifting social contact restrictions have created new complications that will require the ACAC and member institutions to approach the coming season with an open-minded, flexible approach.”

Kosak goes on to state “there is a unified commitment amongst the 17 member institutions” to deliver a quality post-secondary sports experience for fans, athletes and stakeholders alike.

“Above all else, student-athlete health and adherence to all government safety directives will remain paramount to the ACAC plans we formulate,” said Kosak.
