With children out of school, the Medicine Hat Firefighters are hosting a virtual tour of one of their stations on Tuesday to give families a chance to learn together.

The service will be streaming the tour, as well as fire safety messaging and an interactive training scenario.

“With all of the kids being at home, we wanted to help out,” said fire prevention officer Curtis Noble. “Parents are looking for things to do and we figured we could help out by doing this.”

The livestream will start at 10 a.m. and will run for roughly an hour. If people cannot make it for the live event, the video will stay up on the Medicine Hat Firefighters Facebook page forever.

“We’re going to set up a watch party before the stream and then we’ll be able to get some questions ready for the question-and-answer segment,” he said. “The nice thing about Facebook is that this can be interactive – people can send us in questions as it goes on.”

If the event is popular enough, Noble says it could become a somewhat regular occurrence for the fire department.

“If people like it, we can definitely look into more down the line,” he said. “We’ll see how it goes on Tuesday.”
