Medicine Hat’s Budget Blinds location was recently recognized by its parent company for the work it did last year in the community.
The company found out recently that it was awarded the North American Community Service Award and part owner Dawn Cameron says it was a nice surprise for her team.
“You always hope to win but we couldn’t believe it when we did,” she said. “The other stores that were up for this did some pretty equally amazing things so it was really an honour to be put in the same category as them.
“It was unbelievable for us.”
The business was recognized for a large donation to the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society, as well as donations and work with other not-for-profits in the Hat.
“It’s important for us to give back to the community,” said Cameron. “Our community supports us, so we feel it’s our duty to help out those who need it.
“The community gives us the ability to come to work every day, so it’s the least we can do.”
The local branch was up against roughly 1,100 other locations for the award.
