Cubs felled in Game 7

By Medicine Hat News on March 5, 2020.

The Medicine Hat Cubs will have a month off before provincials.

The junior B team was ousted from the Heritage league playoffs Wednesday, a 4-1, Game 7 loss in Cochrane to a Generals team that had trailed in the series 3-1.

Patrick Forde had the first two goals and the Generals never trailed. Sam Norris added another and captain Brandon Aab salted the win away with an empty-netter.

Cooper Hilworth was the lone scorer for Medicine Hat for the second game in a row, his second period marker making it 3-1.

Medicine Hat had a stranglehold on the series after taking home ice away last weekend. In Cochrane Sunday they had a chance to end it in overtime, but instead Aab’s game-winner became a turning point.

Provincials begin April 2 at the Kinplex and the Generals hope to be there too, though the Cubs are at the moment the only team with a spot. Cochrane moves on to face Okotoks in the Heritage semifinals. Okotoks swept High River last week and will be well-rested.

In the Heritage’s North Division Mountainview upset top seed Airdrie in six games and will face Sylvan Lake, which upset No. 2 Red Deer in Game 7 Monday.
