Residential property tax assessment notices will sent out this week, the city’s finance department has announced. Farm assessments are also being distributed starting on Feb. 28 while assessments for non-residential and multi-family residential classes will be sent out on April 9. Property owners have 60 days to challenge assessment values that are updated yearly and are charged against mill rates to determine tax amounts. Officials ask that queries be made as soon as possible, but the final deadline for filing an assessment appeal is May 8 for residential properties and farmland. The date for non-commercial and multi-family classes is June 16. Council sets the mill-rate in April. Taxes are due on June 30. 7
