Mental health incident ends peacefully

Police responded to a "high profile" mental health call at a house across from the McDonald's at Ross Glen Drive and Dunmore Road Tuesday. The individual in question was apprehended without criminal charges and nobody was hurt.

Police responded Tuesday afternoon to a “high-profile incident” across the street from the McDonald’s at Ross Glen Drive and Dunmore Road.

According to a news release from the Medicine Hat Police Service, officers were called to a house on Ross Haven Avenue where they encountered an individual in a mental health crisis.

“Given the circumstances involved, including the history of the individual and their access to weapons, extreme caution and care was exercised,” the release notes.

The individual was brought into custody under the Mental Health Act and no harm was done to themselves, the public nor the officers.

MHPS Staff Sgt. Trevor Humphries told the News no criminal charges were laid, declining further comment.
