Medicine Hat’s Coldest Night of the Year fundraising event is coming up and organizers are looking for walkers to participate.
The event is taking place Feb. 22 will offer two, five and 10 kilometre courses for Hatters to take part in, while raising money for a good cause.
“We’re very excited to do the event again,” said organizer Murray Kumm. “This is going to be our sixth year doing this in Medicine Hat and our goal is $20,000.
“This walk is family-friendly and raises money across the country for great charities.”
In previous years the money was raised for Hope Street CMC, but it has merged with the Mustard Seed. Kumm says it is a great organization to be a part of.
“We’re one of five Mustard Seed locations in Alberta and B.C. that will be doing Coldest Night,” he said. “The money raised will go toward our breakfast program.
“We serve breakfast Monday through Saturday every morning at the Champion Centre and we have a Thursday and Sunday meal at our main building.”
Kumm says the event has raised more than $5,000 so far and is looking for more people to participate.
“We don’t have a limit on teams or walkers,” said Kumm. “I think the most teams we’ve ever had is 12 or 13 are we’re always looking to top that.
“The more walkers we get, the more money we can raise for our community.
“All of the money raised in Medicine Hat stays in Medicine Hat.”
