NEWS PHOTO MO CRANKER Cast from Now. Here. This perform Friday evening at the Play House during the first showing of the musical.
“Now. Here. This.” is a hilarious spin on how we all got here – in this case to the Medicine Hat Musical Theatre Playhouse for the groups current production.
Now is the time. Here is the only place. This is all I want to be.
This production stars a talented and ambitious cast of characters: Tristan Glasier (playing Susan), Rob Olson (playing Hunter), Shelby Haga (playing Heidi) and Justin Irving (playing Jeff). The quartet sets out on their exploration of big life questions during an outing they have taken to a natural history museum. While being stumped wondering what the meaning of life is, the foursome explore the museum’s different exhibits to find the answers with humour and song. The lyrics and voices are amazing and have a way of drawing you in and engaging you in the storyline. The choreography by Marnie Zeller perfectly captures the spirit of those lyrics and song. Numbers that stand out include “Dazzle Camouflage,” “Members Only” and “That Makes Me Hot.”
Pay close attention because the story “time hops” with each of the four characters going back pivotal points in their lives. They have the audience questioning and connecting with early man, outer space, loneliness, friendship, hiding, laughing, living and dying all points along the journey to the now, the here and the this.
The show is at times gut-wrenching and at times humorous, but never strays far from the heart. Director Tyler Johnson and the small cast have once again given a show of good humour and good feelings worthy of your time and money.
Four performances – Feb. 12-15 – remain for “Now Here. This.”
