Medicine Hat’s Mercury ringette team was hot when it needed to be in reaching the final of a tournament in Strathmore this past weekend.
The under-14 A side wound up second at the Laurie Morton Ruppe Memorial, their only two losses to the host team but no blowouts reported on either end of the ledger.
Mercury began the weekend with a 5-4 loss to Strathmore, but picked up wins of 6-5 over Sherwood Park and 5-3 over Calgary’s Bow View to earn a rematch. Sunday’s championship game finished 7-5 for Strathmore, but it was a solid silver medal showing for Medicine Hat.
Also at the Strathmore tournament, the under-10 Asteroids went 1-1-1. They opened with an 11-6 loss to Lethbridge, then tied Strathmore 11-11, and finally beat Calgary Bow View 9-6 to end the weekend on a high note.
Players of the game for the Asteroids were Peyton Chaffer, Jovi Ireland and Julia Giesbrecht.
