Feb. 17 – mark your calendars, Hatters.

The Hale brothers will be making their television debut on CBC’s Canadian Family Feud next month – oldest brother Troy says they had a blast.

“It was fantastic,” said Hale. “It was really one of the best weekends we’ve had in our lives with the five of us.

“There was so much fun and so much excitement.”

The episode is set to air on Family Day, which fits perfectly with a set of five brothers competing.

“It ended up working out perfectly,” said Hale. “I believe episodes air at 7:30 p.m. in our time here in Medicine Hat.”

The brothers went to Toronto Jan. 18 to film at least one episode, with the potential of winning three.

“We flew out Saturday and they film Sunday and Monday,” he said. “We were told beforehand that we’d be filming Monday – which gave us a chance to visit old friends, go to an IMAX movie and just make the most of the time together.

“It was a special weekend as brothers.”

That Sunday evening the brothers got a call letting them know host comedian Gerry Dee was feeling sick and that filming may not happen on Monday, meaning the brothers would have had to make a second trip back to Toronto on the following weekend.

“Four of the five of us have kids at home – it would have been difficult to pull off,” Hale said. “We were hoping to film at least one episode on the Monday and when we went in we got in we got good news.

“The producer came to us and picked us to go first, because we travelled from so far away.”

Hale confirmed that the family shot at least one episode while there.

Hale says Dee was awesome to be around.

“Just a great guy,” he said. “We actually just ended up eating lunch with him one of the days there.

“We sat for about 30 minutes and ate with him – he’s a really cool guy.”

The Hale brothers are sworn to secrecy and cannot tell anyone how they did on the show.

“No one knows,” said Hale. “Our wives don’t even know.

“People will have to tune in and check it out.”
