With great sadness we the family of Martha “Molly” Durr wish to announce her peaceful passing into God’s beautiful garden on Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 at the age of 98 years. The Funeral Service was held yesterday at VICTORY LUTHERAN CHURCH. 1936 ~ LILLIAN FRENCH ~ 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Lillian ‘Joyce’ French announce her sudden passing on January 16th, 2020. Joyce was born on February 9th, 1936 to the late William and Patricia Helement in St. Jean, Quebec. Sister to the late Teddy and Danny Helement, Joyce grew up in Montreal and it was here she met the love of her life, Alvin, while he was on leave from the Royal Canadian Navy. They were married for 62 years, moving from post to post during Alvin’s Navy career, finally settling in Redcliff, Alberta in 1987. Sadly, Alvin passed in August 2018. Joyce is survived by her children, Judy (Brian) Donovan, Fay (Paul) Chapman, Lorraine Docken, Debbie (Marshall) Astika and daughter in law, Donna Cullins. She had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly as they loved her. She was pre- deceased by her beloved son, Darryl, in January of 2018, and after losing him her heart was never quite the same. Joyce’s greatest joy was having family come visit, cooking for them and simply enjoying their company. She was generous, funny, sharp witted and didn’t hold back on telling somebody “what was what”. She loved to laugh, enjoyed her programs on TV and found great joy in colouring on her iPad. As per her wishes, there will not be a service. Instead the family has chosen to have the interment and private celebration of life in the spring of 2020. She was our mother, our grandmother, our friend and our lives won’t be the same without her. DEBORAH JEAN STOKKE

1955 ~ 2020

With family by her side, Deborah Jean ‘Debbie’ Stokke passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at the age of 64 years. Deborah’s memory will live on in the hearts of her parents, Douglas and Dalaine Wagar; two sons, Jason (Nadine Moncks) Stokke and his children, Isla Stokke and Clara Stokke; Randy Stokke and his children, Annabel Stokke and Benjamin Stokke; siblings, Dwayne (Denise) Wagar, Donita (Brad) Reid and Melody (Ron) Pettit as well as two nieces, Kayla and Krystal and one nephew, Jesse. Debbie was passionate about her work as a Massage Therapist and took special interest in treating and providing comfort to cancer survivors. She was a loving and adored mother and grandmother who easily won the hearts of all those whose paths she crossed. In keeping with Debbie’s wishes, her life will be honoured and her memory cherished without the proceedings of a formal service. JERRY CZEMBER

1937 – 2020

Jerry Czember passed away peacefully at his home in Grass Valley California on January 17th, 2020.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Skye of Grass Valley and her daughter Tasha Chenoweth (Steve) of Rocklin, CA, his sisters and brothers-in-law Marlene and Rob Okell of Seattle WA, and Jenica Waymen and Micheal Coon of Victoria BC, and sister-in-law Joyce Czember of Medicine Hat. He is also fondly remembered as “Uncle Jerry” by his niece Lanette Hopfauf (Greg) of Chestermere AB, nephews Lyle Czember of Medicine Hat and Patrick (Anna) and Cameron (Theresa) Okell of Seattle WA. He also leaves aunts and many cousins in Canada, United States, Germany and Spain.

Jerry is predeceased by his parents Frank and Elsie Czember, his brother Richard and grand nephew Chris Czember.

Jerry grew up in Medicine Hat where his father founded and operated Valley Dale Greenhouses along with Jerry’s brother Richard. His mother started and operated Health Products Center. He attended Medicine Hat High School but he preferred his time at the South Saskatchewan River or rebuilding old cars to time spent in school. He developed a love of photography and after high school attended the New York School of Photography in New York City and launched a successful and interesting career as a professional photographer. His work appeared in many fashion magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Mademoiselle and on many recording artists’ album covers, He tired of the hectic life in New York and moved to California in the late 60’s and lived in San Francisco and finally Grass Valley. In San Francisco he discovered his love of sailing and for many years kept his classic wooden sailboat in Sausalito and made many trips along the California and Mexico coast. He travelled extensively and in recent years spent time in Thailand and visited Miramar soon after it opened up to outsiders.

He recently moved from San Francisco and spent his last few years between his Grass Valley home and his condo in Hildo, HI.

At Jerry’s request, there is no service planned at this time.

TESSMAN

Arthur Edmund Tessman passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at the age of 86 years, beloved husband of the late Alma Tessman. He leaves to cherish his memory his children; Denis (Bev) Tessmann, Annie (Roger) Benoit all of Medicine Hat, Gordon (Leann) Tessmann of Seven Persons, Gerry (Pam) Tessman, and Dave (Darlene) Tessman all of Medicine Hat; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; his brothers Alfred (Karin) Tessman and Karl (Helen) Tessman; three sisters- in-law, Dianne Tessman, Evelyn Tessman, and Ella Tessman along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Edmund and Emma Tessmann, his wife Alma on January 29, 2006; his brothers, Otto and Helmut in infancy, Reinhard, Adolf and Erich one sister Ida-Emma; one sister-in-law Ilene Tessman. Arthur’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Masterpiece for the wonderful care they have given to Art in the last few years of his life. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 12:30 – 1:25 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Hillcrest Evangelical Missionary Church (3785 13th Ave SE) on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Roland Schlenker officiating.
