NEWS PHOTO JALYCE THOMPSON Dylan and Ginny Reid welcomed Honey Rose into their family on New Year's Day, the couple's sixth - and final - child. Honey Rose is Medicine Hat's 2020 New Year's Baby.
A married couple welcomed a baby girl into their arms at the Medicine Hat Hospital on New Years Day.
Ginny Reid birthed Honey Rose Reid into the world, with Dylan Reid by her side at 5:02 a.m. Honey Rose weighs five pounds and seven ounces.
“She’s just a little, precious gift, she’s so special,” said Ginny, mother of the newborn.
Ginny was in labour for 14 hours, but she said the birth went smoother than her previous ones.
“This birth was so amazing,” said Ginny Reid. “I was in labour for a long time, but once she came it just went, and it was so easy.”
Dylan, the father of the baby, said they had three names narrowed down, but lately they’d been seeing honey everywhere, which is why they chose the name.
“We walked into Costco, and on the demo TVs, there was honey dropping,” said Dylan Reid.
“We went to The Keg on Christmas Eve, and the waitress had a big honey bee on her arm,” said Ginny.
Ginny said when Dylan’s mother came to drop off gifts, that is when they officially made the decision to name her Honey.
“His mom gave us clothes (for Honey), and the clothes had bees all over them,” said Ginny Reid.
Honey Rose has five other siblings, three sisters, and two brothers. Ginny said they were given pink gifts on Christmas Day so they knew they were getting a sister, and they were very excited.
The couple said they knew the gender before as well, however their friends and family found out the day of the birth.
What the couple was surprised with, was having the baby on New Year’s Day. Both parents said they weren’t expecting Honey to be born New Year’s Day, because her due date wasn’t until Jan. 5.
“Our friends would say, oh you’ll have the baby New Year’s Day,” said Dylan, adding that they would just laugh at their friends and disagree.
Honey Rose Reid is the sixth child, and she will be the last, said Ginny.
Ginny and Dylan are very humble and happy about their newest addition to their family, and their start to the new year.
