Hatters spoken to by the News say they’re going to ring in the new year by staying cozy at home. The year is coming to an end, and a new decade is beginning, and for this New Year’s Eve, it seems movies and snacks are tops on the list of things to do. Cassidy Janzen, who works at Pet Valu, said this year she’s decided to take advantage of Netflix’s movie selection, and is using the night off to relax. “I’m going to eat popcorn, watch horror movies, and put my feet back,” said Janzen. Janzen said she usually does go out to celebrate, but every few years, she stays in to catch up on rest. “I partied enough over Christmas with my family so it’s time to chill,” said Janzen. Kimberly Quallie, who is a mother of three, said she is staying in with two of the children, while her husband and son go to the Flames vs. Blackhawks game in Calgary. She and her other children will be staying in and watching movies. “I can almost guarantee ‘Paw Patrol.’ My two-year-old is obsessed with ‘Paw Patrol,'” said Quallie. She says they normally go to the Lodge to attend its annual event, but they’re going to Mexico later in January, which will tie into their new year celebrations. “With us going on a trip, and my husband and son going to the game, we’re just having a chill evening,” said Quallie. Don and Linda Collier, a married couple, said because they aren’t the party type, they usually celebrate New Year’s Eve by staying in, and watching TV. However this year they are attending a friend’s gathering to bring in the new decade. “It’s nice to go to a friends house and play some board games and watch TV,” said Don. He said as the years go by, they prefer to get their rest than stay up late, but this year they’re changing their usual plan. 16
