Brooks RCMP charge 52-year-old man in highway fatality from June

By Medicine Hat News on December 20, 2019.

Mounties in Brooks have laid charges of dangerous driving causing death stemming from a highway crash last spring that claimed the life of a 72-year-old man.

On June 3, RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Range Road 150 and the Trans-Canada Highway, west of the city.

They determined that a pickup travelling south on the range road collided with an eastbound SUV on the highway. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead on the scene, while his passenger was taken to hospital along with the other driver.

Authorities announced Thursday that charges were laid on Nov. 25 against Gavin Petrie, 52, of Brooks.

He also faces a charge of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and is scheduled to appear in Brooks Provincial Court on Jan. 15, 2020.
