The book shelves at Medicine Hat News Santa Claus fund are brimming thanks to a $5,000 donation from the local Office of CIBC Wood Gundy. Principals of the firm made the handover of funds from their local “Miracle Day” fundraiser for local charities stating that it’s their pleasure to help those who need extra support “Our hope is that each kid will get a book at Christmas,” said Deanna Doerksen, SCF executive director. “Our shelf had been looking a little bare, but now it’s never looked better.” Books are included in hampers of food for families and gifts for children under the age of 17. Doerksen said the donation has already been used to execute a bulk buy of reading material and now the shelf is fully stocked with materials for all ages. CIBC Wood Gundy’s Santa Fund donation is one of several announced this week by the Medicine Hat office of the investment house. A $10,000 cheque to KidSport brought the local firm’s total contribution to that organization at $150,000 over 15 years. Nationally, CIBC raised $5.7 million through its Miracle Day program, wherein brokers set aside a portion of their fees for charities in the communities they serve. Auction nears The annual Santa Claus Fund auction and fundraiser is set to take place on Dec. 12 at the Dayzoff Pub on Kingsway Avenue. Proceeds go directly to helping families in need in the area.
