Safe parking practices will be the focus of the Bylaw Education and Enforcement Program (BEEP) during the Christmas season. BEEP says this is particularly important at this time of year when people tend to be preoccupied and/or rushed. “Parking lots are busy places, filled with vehicles and people anxious to complete their Christmas shopping list. Road surfaces can be slick and the available spots are a bit tougher to find,” states a press release. Under the Public Roads Bylaw # 4346 parking in a fire lane is prohibited and the fine could be $50. If you have a handicapped placard, you are reminded to display it. If you are not handicapped, you may not park in these designated spots. Parking illegally in these spots could result in a fine of $200. Parking in a loading zone, which is always clearly marked, carries a fine of $50. 8
