Arrest made after pursuit regarding stolen cash machines along Highway 9

By Medicine Hat News on November 26, 2019.

Following a pursuit “throughout eastern Alberta” the RCMP have arrested one suspect in smash-and-grab cash machine robberies on Highway 9.

The Hanna Detachment announced late Sunday that they had one person in custody near Consort following a chase that involved officers from multiple detachments from Wainwright to Oyen.

The suspect is not being named until charges are formally sworn.

That person was wanted after police say an ATM was taken by two individuals from the Canada Grey Motor Inn in Hanna at about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday when a stolen truck was used as a battering ram to smash through a wall.

Police say they also recovered a sawed-off pump-action shotgun and break-in tools in the stolen Ford F150.

A similar style robbery occurred at the Debmart in Oyen on the morning of Nov. 23. Sunday’s release only details the robbery in Hanna.

Authorities state the investigation is ongoing.
