Rattlers volleyball teams grab wins on road trip to Olds College

The Medicine Hat Rattlers women’s volleyball team rallied back into the win column with a four-set victory over the Broncos (25-20, 21-15, 25-22, 25-16) on Friday at Olds College.

The victory snaps a two-game losing streak for Medicine Hat while lifting them to 5-6 on the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference season.

Brooke Christie and Amber Stigter shared the offence with 12 and 11 kills respectively, while Janessa Oelke assisted on 14 and Shaya Suchy dug out 23. Christie and Stigter were also a force on defence, racking up a combined 31 digs.

Olds’Â Searra Schoepfner was held to just eight kills in the loss, while Avery Gammel had 16 assists and Francesca Sandini posted 22 digs.

The Broncos slipped to 2-7 with the loss, their sixth in a row.

Men’s volleyball

The Rattlers men’s volleyball team strung together a second consecutive victory by defeating the Broncos in straight sets (26-24, 26-24, 25-21) on Friday night in Olds.

The victory moves Medicine Hat to 3-8 on the ACAC season and pushes them past Olds (2-7) for fifth in the South Division standings.

Aleksa Zivic led Medicine Hat to the victory with a 14-kill performance, while Nikola Sreckovic posted 27 assists and Jovan Stepanovic added 12 digs on defence. KeAndre Evans followed up with 11 digs, while Zivic and Ty Moline both had 10.

Lukas Dragicevic had eight kills for Olds, while Thomas Pugsley added 18 assists and Jesse Stoddart dug out 18.

The Rattlers and Broncos go back at it for a pair of rematches Saturday in Olds starting at 1 p.m.
