From oilfield work, to taxi work and now to used books – George Giffen is starting the next chapter in his life.

About two weeks ago, Giffen opened Unlimited Characters, Medicine Hat’s only used book store. He says he is happy to have the business up and running.

“Things are going well so far – people are excited,” he said. “The community has given us a warm reception so far and we hope we can get the word out that we’re here.”

Giffen bought out a book store and a couple large collections before opening his Dunmore Road-based store, meaning he has roughly 22,000 books priced and on sale and another 35,000 ready for the shelves.

“I’ve lived in Medicine Hat for about 17 years but I’ve wanted a bookstore of my own since I was 16,” he said. “This is a project of passion for me and I want the selection to be what brings people here and keeps them coming back

“We really do have something for everyone – from kids, teens, adults, westerns – the selection is huge.”

Giffen says his mission is to get as many people reading as possible and hopes he can get non-readers to pick up the hobby.

“I’m not in this to get rich, I just want to spread the passion for reading,” he said. “When everyone walks in here, they’re surprised by how big it is in here and by the selection.

“I just want people to read.”

Giffen, who still works with Care Cabs, says all books have prices, but numbers can be flexible.

“If you don’t like a price, try to work something out with me,” he said. “I can’t give books away, but I try to work with people.”

The store, at 1577 Dunmore Rd. operates seven days each week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Giffen says he is thankful for the community support so far.

“Just talking to people, interacting with everyone, it has all been positive,” he said. “I think this is something Medicine Hat has needed for a while and I hope we can make this work.”

I really enjoy reading different books, especially Macbeth, as I think it’s just a gorgeous story with a lot of interesting and deep characters. So I can definitely say that I should learn more about them. Luckily there is already a place where you can study in detail everything about this or that book, for example about destiny in this work by this link and learn more. I am very glad that I was able to, because I can definitely say that it should be useful for many people. Good luck, I hope I was able to help someone with this case.
