Trio banished from reserve after robbing co-op, scheming to make guns

By Medicine Hat News on October 12, 2019.

Three men charged with robbing a rural co-op have been banished from the Siksika Reserve after they were also charged in a scheme to make and sell guns on the reserve, the band council announced this week.

The three are not members, but one resided on the reserve with his common-law spouse.

A release dated Oct. 9 from the office of the Chief and Council of the reserve near Gliechen states the RCMP will uphold the ban on “non-members” Darren Huyzer, Monty Skotniski and Troy Lemke.

Two of the men and a woman were charged in September after Mounties searched a property near Cluny and seized a safe and other material taken from the Arrowwood Co-op outlet earlier in the month along with narcotics.

RCMP charged Huyzer and Skotniski in August with possessing gun-making materials.

Robbery in Hanna

Mounties in Hanna say they are looking for two men who broke into a rural residence overnight Thursday and demanded cash from the occupants.

The break-in occurred 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 11 at an unlocked home near Craigmyle, northeast of Drumheller. Two men wearing ski masks demanded cash then left after obtaining some older-style bills, which Mounties say makes them “somewhat unique.” The men are described as six feet tall with a larger build, and 5-foot-8 and thin. Both were wearing black coveralls and hoodies and spoke with undetermined accents. Police believe they carried guns. The residents were not physically injured.

Anyone with information should contact Hanna detachment at 403-854-3393.
