Medicine Hat’s Colton Boxell was dealt a unanimous decision loss in his third fight as a professional mixed martial artist at the 11th annual Showdown in the Downtown on Saturday in London, Ont. Boxell went the distance with Sarnia’s Joel Paquette, but after staying in an even bout through two rounds, Paquette took over in the third to secure the victory on the judges’ scorecards (30-27, 30-27, 30-26). The decision drops Boxell to 1-2 as a professional. “I thought I held my own well enough,” Boxell said in a text message to the News. “Proud of the fight if not the result and I’m already looking at the gym. Need to rest and recover a bit first but can’t wait to get back in.” Paquette improved to 2-2 with the victory. The bout was a quick turnaround for Boxell, who picked up his first professional victory with a heel hook submission against Jeremiah Curtright on Aug. 24. Boxell says he will return to the cage in 2020. 8
