Three local organizations will share almost $94,000 in federal arts and culture grants announced on Thursday morning by Heritage Canada.
The Esplanade Theatre will receive $52,800 related to its presentation of “Momentum” and Medicine Hat JazzFest also received $33,000 for its programming. Both grants come from the Canadian Arts Presentation fund and are eligible for future outlays.
Under the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage Fund, the Miywasin Centre will receive $8,000 for its annual “The Hills Are Alive Music, Dance and Culture” festival in the Cypress Hills.
Taber Cornfest also received a $7,500 grant from $1.45 million in funds for southern Alberta announced on Thursday by Calgary MP Kent Hehr.
The largest single grants awards went to Calgary’s One Yellow Rabbit theatre association ($170,500), the Banff Centre ($137,500), Calgary Folkfest ($132,000), and the Calgary Fireworks Festival ($102,500).
The Lethbridge Jazz Society ($6,600) and Lethbridge Allied Arts Council also received grants of $6,600 and $5,500, respectively.
