Radio Ramblings: Songs for your girls road trip playlist

By Amber Beierbach on August 29, 2019.

The final long weekend of summer is nearly upon us and I’m leaving the baby with the hubby and heading out on a road trip to B.C. with some girlfriends. Long drives are usually pretty boring but the right playlist can help turn a dragging trip into a fun time and before you know it you’re there! Since this is a ladies only trip, we get to have that much more fun with our playlist, jamming out to songs our husbands never would have let us include! If you are headed on a girls-only trip sometime soon here are some great additions to include on your playlist!

Since my friends and I all grew up mostly in the 1990s, you know a good chunk of our playlist is going to be those beloved late ’90s and early 2000s pop tunes that were our go-to when we were 10-15 years old. I’m talking the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, NSYNC and of course Backstreet Boys. I don’t know any women in their 30s who don’t love Backstreet Boys so you know “Larger Than Life,” “I Want It That Way,” “The Call” and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” will be included.

However, it’s not all pop music of course. There has to be some classic rock that everyone loves to sing along to. Some of our favourites that will be included are “Don’t Stop Believin'” from Journey, “Go Your Own Way” from Fleetwood Mac, “Low Rider” from War, “Born to be Wild” from Steppenwolf, “Bohemian Rhapsody” from Queen and the even lengthier, “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” from Meatloaf.

Being an all-ladies trip means we of course need to include some female anthems. Include songs like “Run The World (Girls)” from Beyoncé, “Miss Independent” from Kelly Clarkson, “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” from Shania Twain, “Independent Women” from Destiny’s Child, “This One’s For The Girls” from Martina McBride, “Respect” from Aretha Franklin and of course “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” from Cyndi Lauper.

To round out the road trip look no further than a great combination of favourites that everyone will like. These are songs that we probably grew up with, that bring back great memories or even classics that everyone loves no matter when they hear them. Try songs like “No Scrubs” from TLC, “Stacy’s Mom” from Fountains Of Wayne, “A Thousand Miles” from Vanessa Carlton, “Mr. Brightside” from The Killers, “Dancing Queen” from ABBA, “The Sign” from Ace of Base, “Turn Back Time” from Cher and “Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)” from The Offspring, who by the way will be playing here in town at the Canalta Centre on Nov. 25 with Sum 41! These songs are bound to make the road trip that much more memorable and before you know it the drive portion is over and it’s on to the fun shenanigans.
