Hodgins opens with even-par 72

Medicine Hat’s Ryan Hodgins opened with an even-par 72 at the Canadian Junior Boys Championship Monday, which in most cases would put him in good position at the Golf Canada event. But with defending champion Christopher Vandette scorching his way to a 10-under 62, it’s already a long ways back. Vandette, who won last year’s title at Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club, broke the course record at Covered Bridge Golf and Country Club in New Brunswick. Hodgins is still in good shape to make the cut in the crowded 156-player field. The 72-hole event runs through Thursday. 5-4
