Saturday was all about dogs during the third annual Dogs in the Hat festival at Kin Coulee Park.

The event ran Saturday afternoon despite spotty weather at times and president Elisha Mathis says upwards of 1,000 people and their animals were expected at the park.

“This is everything and anything dog related,” said Mathis. “We have veterinarians, kennels, dog sport and rescues out here for people to check out.

“It’s a fun afternoon where we can educate the community a bit about the services we have here locally.”

The event featured demonstrations from a number of different clubs and organizations including the Medicine Hat Police Service’s K9 team – it also played host to a kissing booth for people and their pets.

“It’s so good to educate people on the services we have here and to show them what sports they can do with their dogs,” said Mathis. “I think something like the MHPS demonstration can be super informative for people and it’s really interesting to see.

“There’s lots of services open to people in the community and our event is a great way for people to connect.”
