A hemp processing company with ties to Aurora Cannabis is moving ahead with the second and third expansion of its Edmonton-area facilities that will process plant mass grown in Medicine Hat.
Radient Technologies extracts CBD oil out of cannabis and hemp plant material which in 2017 signed a partnership to process the lucrative byproduct for Edmonton-based Aurora.
On Thursday the company announced that it had selected contractors and would move forward with work at two new production facilities to handle rapidly growing supply forecasts.
In February, Aurora announced that Radient would also handle material from the massive Aurora Sun greenhouse that is under construction in Medicine Hat.
In Edmonton, new plants would boost annual processing capacity to 280,000 kilograms of cannabis and 2.8 million kilograms of hemp, according to a release from Radient.

An expansion as that Aurora Sun facility that announced in April will bring the total local growing capacity of the now 1.6 million square foot facility to 260,000 kilograms of cannabis per year.
Radient’s projects were awarded to Fillmore Construction, an Edmonton firm that has experience in the food processing construction sector.
