Mavs lose seventh

By medicinehatnews on June 19, 2019.

The Medicine Hat Mavericks are in uncharted territory after a 10-2 loss to the Lethbridge Bulls Tuesday.

The Mavs have now lost seven games in a row, their longest losing streak since Greg Morrison bought the team a decade ago and possibly in team history. The team has had two six-game losing skids in that time.

Offence was again a problem at Athletic Park, the home team managing just four hits off the Bulls. Starter Jaden Griffin didn’t let up a hit until Russell Strilchuck’s leadoff double in the third, but Strilchuck was stranded at third.

By then it was already 4-0, Lethbridge getting those runs in the second against Mavs pitcher Junior Pimentel. Medicine Hat hung around until the ninth inning when the visitors added five more. They got their only runs in the bottom of the ninth on reliever Kai Poffenroth.

Grant Kerry was 2-for-3 with three walks for the Bulls, now 3-0 against the Mavs and 9-7 overall. Medicine Hat, 6-11, has lost more games than it did last summer and hosts 12-4 Okotoks tonight.
