One of Medicine Hat’s top high school basketball players is heading to play with the defending national college champions.

Monsignor McCoy’s Halle Gjerlaug has committed to the Olds Broncos, according to a press release from the college Wednesday.

“I was happy to come because I wanted more for my basketball career after high school,” Gjerlaug said in the release. “The amazing gym and workout centre were big factors in deciding to play at Olds.”

She’ll be coached by Avery Harrison, the all-time winningest coach in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference history with more than 500.

Gjerlaug’s McCoy Colts were fourth at 3A high school provincials in March, after which she played for Harrison at an all-star event. Fittingly the Broncos had just won the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association title in Quebec the week prior.
